Information for parents

Oak National Academy is a platform that provides teachers with free lesson planning and teaching resources.

Our curriculum covers a broad range of subjects, from Year 1 up to Year 11, with lessons designed to complement those schools following the national curriculum.

Teachers use our resources to plan lessons to deliver in the classroom. They might also set homework, revision or catch-up for your child using our pupil area for them to complete lessons at home.

Lessons include a pre-recorded video, quizzes and worksheet.

If a teacher asks your child to use Oak please see the following information to help you understand what equipment or level of supervision might be needed.

Please remember that our resources have been created to support existing teaching, and we do not recommend they replace contact with teachers.

Can I use Oak to homeschool my children?

We were originally created in response to disruption in education during the pandemic with the support of a broad group of teachers, schools and curriculum experts who helped us identify the content most commonly taught across the national curriculum.

All of our resources are designed to support teachers in the classroom in their existing efforts to make sure that every child has access to high-quality teaching. Our lessons are designed to complement those schools following the national curriculum. None of our resources are designed to replace contact with teachers.

While parents and carers may find the lessons and resources a useful part of supporting their child’s learning and structuring their day, we always recommend that parents seek and follow the advice of schools, teachers, and any specialist therapists.

And further to this, we do not offer direct or personal support as our lessons are pre-recorded, nor do we provide qualifications or progress reports.
