How are the lessons taught in our pupil area?
How Oak's lessons are structured
The dedicated part of our websites for pupils is called the pupil area. This is typically used by teachers to set cover, set homework for pupils or to help absent pupils to catch up.
These lessons can be shared with any pupil via Google Classroom, Teams or any other platform.
See our help article: Using our pupil area.
Lessons typically last an hour and follow a similar structure.
- All lessons have an introduction page including any equipment needed and a content warning if applicable.
For more information on content warnings, see our help article: Do I need to supervise pupils while they use Oak’s resources?
- Some lessons will have a starter quiz at the beginning to retrieve and activate prior knowledge that needs to be built upon. Similarly, some lessons have an exit quiz to check pupil understanding.
- Most lessons have a video with an explanation of the topic from a teacher. Typically, a video will include lesson objectives, questions to ensure understanding, and various practice tasks, with prompts to start and pause the video.
- Most lessons have an additional worksheet embedded. These contain any templates, tasks or other content as referred to in the video.
- Once a lesson is finished pupils will see a lesson review page with the results of their lesson which can be shared with you.
Our lesson planning and teaching resources for teachers mirror what is available in our pupil view with added functionality such as downloading slide decks, worksheets and quizzes so they can be edited and adapted as needed for use in the classroom.
