Introduction
We’ve been working hard on improving the pupil area on our website to help pupils get the most out of our resources.
You may want your class to use our pupil area for homework or revision, to support them if they are absent or for when there is disruption such as bad weather. Whatever the reason, we understand that pupils’ needs are very different to the needs of a teacher.
In this video Aakesh Pattani, our Principal Product Manager, talks through our dedicated pupil area and the features you can find in it.
Our pupil area has been carefully designed to be straightforward for pupils to use. With a clear, step-by-step approach, pupils are guided through each section so they know exactly what is needed for a lesson and can easily track their own progress.
For more information about lessons in our pupil area see our help article: How are the lessons taught in our pupil area?
What resources are available?
Every national curriculum lesson from KS1 - 4 that is available in your teacher area is also available in our pupil area.
Pupils will be taken through a lesson by giving them an introduction in a lesson overview page, a downloadable worksheet, a prior knowledge starter quiz, a lesson video and an assessment exit quiz.
Results of the lesson can be shared with you afterwards.
Please note: Our EYFS and Specialist content is only available in the teacher area.
Lesson overview page
On the lesson overview page pupils will see which activities are included in a lesson. Most lessons will include an introduction, a starter and/or an exit quiz and a lesson video.
On this page, once an activity is complete, pupils will see a tick by it so they know where they are in the lesson.
Introduction
This is general introductory information including any content warnings or equipment needed and worksheets pupils can download to go with the lesson.
For more information on content warnings, see our help article: Do I need to supervise pupils while they use Oak’s resources?
Starter quiz
This tests a pupil's prior knowledge before watching the lesson video. Pupils submit answers one at a time so they can get immediate feedback as they work through the quiz. A hint button is available in case pupils need some extra information to be able to answer the question.
Their final score will be shown on the lesson overview page.
Lesson video
Typically, a video will include lesson objectives, questions to ensure understanding and various practice tasks with prompts to pause and start the video. There is also a transcript of the video available.
Exit quizzes
This tests the knowledge the pupil has gained by watching the lesson video. Pupils can submit answers one at a time so they can get immediate feedback as they work through the quiz. A hint button is available in case pupils need some extra information to be able to answer the question.
Their final score will be shown on the lesson overview page.
Lesson review page
Once all activities in the lesson have been completed, pupils will be taken to the lesson review page showing everything has been completed and quiz scores achieved.
Sharing lesson results
Pupils can now share lesson results with their teacher to help assess pupils' progress and identify areas where they may need further support.
How it works:
- Pupils complete a lesson in our pupil area.
- The quizzes are automatically marked and pupils are shown a final score with a breakdown available if needed.
- Pupils can then share results directly to Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams, or copy a unique link to email you or upload to your school’s VLE.
- Teachers are able to see a breakdown of the pupil's answers by question, attempts made, the final score, whether they downloaded the worksheet and how much of the video they watched.
