What you need to know about how we are improving our pupil area
Introduction
We’ve been working hard on improving the pupil area on our website to help pupils get the most out of our lessons.
You may want your class to use our pupil area for homework or revision, to support them if they are absent or for when there is disruption such as bad weather. Whatever the reason, we know that pupils’ needs are very different to the needs of a teacher.
We have a fresh new look designed to make the pupil area even easier to use. This is alongside improvements to help pupils understand what is needed for a lesson and follow their own progress through each section of the lesson.
For more information about lessons in our pupil area see our article How are lessons taught in our Pupil view?
What resources have been updated?
We have updated branding and improved navigation in the pupil area for our KS1 - 4 content.
Our EYFS and Specialist content is now in our teacher area.
What has been improved?
Lesson overview page
On the lesson overview page pupils will see which sections are included in a lesson. Most lessons will include sections for an introduction, a starter and/or an exit quiz and a lesson video.
On this page, once a section is complete, pupils will see a tick by that section so they know where they are in the lesson.
Sections
- Introduction
This is general introductory information including any content warnings or equipment needed and worksheets they can download to go with the lesson.
- Starter quiz
This tests a pupil prior knowledge before watching the lesson video. Pupils submit answers one at a time so they can get immediate feedback as they work through the quiz. A hint button is available in case pupils need some extra information to be able to answer the question.
Their final score will be shown on the lesson overview page.
- Lesson video
Typically, a video will include lesson objectives, questions to ensure understanding and various practice tasks with prompts to pause and start the video. There is also a transcript of the video available.
- Exit quizzes
This tests the knowledge the pupil has gained by watching the lesson video. Pupils can submit answers one at a time so they can get immediate feedback as they work through the quiz. A hint button is available in case pupils need some extra information to be able to answer the question.
Their final score will be shown on the lesson overview page.
Lesson review page
Once all sections of the lesson have been completed, pupils will be taken to the lesson review page showing all sections have been completed and quiz scores achieved.
Sharing lesson results
Pupils can now share lesson results with their teacher to help assess pupils' progress and identify area where they may need further support.
How it works:
- Pupils complete a lesson in our pupil area.
- The quizzes are automatically marked and pupils are shown a final score with a breakdown available if needed.
- Pupils can then share results directly to Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams, or copy a unique link to email you or upload to your school’s VLE.
- Teachers are able to see a breakdown of the pupil's answers by question, attempts made, the final score, whether they downloaded the worksheet and how much of the video they watched.
