Using our improved pupil area

What you need to know about how we are improving our pupil area

Introduction

We’ve been working hard on improving the pupil area on our website to help pupils get the most out of our lessons.

You may want your class to use our pupil area for homework or revision, to support them if they are absent or for when there is disruption such as bad weather. Whatever the reason, we know that pupils’ needs are very different to the needs of a teacher.

We have a fresh new look designed to make the pupil area even easier to use. This is alongside improvements to help pupils understand what is needed for a lesson and follow their own progress through each section of the lesson.

For more information about lessons in our pupil area see our article How are lessons taught in our Pupil view?

What resources have been updated?

We have updated branding and improved navigation in the pupil area for our KS1 - 4 content released before September 2023.

We have also updated branding for our EYFS and Specialist content.

Just so you know, KS3 and 4 combined science, chemistry, biology, physics and RSHE will be updated later this year.

When will our new resources be available?

We have started to release new lesson planning and teaching resources for English, maths, history, and science from keys stages 1, 3, 3 & 4, and primary geography and secondary music. More subjects will follow soon.

These new resources will be available in our pupil area from summer 2024.

What is being improved?

Lesson overview page

On the lesson overview page pupils will see which sections are included in a lesson. Most lessons will include sections for an introduction, a starter and/or an exit quiz and a lesson video.

On this page, once a section is complete, pupils will see a tick by that section so they know where they are in the lesson.

Sections

  • Intro

This is general introductory information including any content warnings or equipment needed and worksheets they can download to go with the lesson.

  • Starter and exit quizzes

Pupils can now submit answers one at a time so they can get immediate feedback as they work through the quiz. Their final score will be shown on the lesson overview page.

  • Watch video

Typically, a video will include lesson objectives, questions to ensure understanding and various practice tasks with prompts to pause and start the video. There is also a transcript of the video available.

Lesson review page

Once all sections of the lesson have been completed, pupils will be taken to the lesson review page showing all sections have been completed and quiz scores achieved.

Feature coming next in our improved pupil experience

Sharing quiz scores

For now, pupils won’t be able to share their quiz scores but this feature will be available again soon.

Hint button for quizzes

As well as getting feedback after submitting each answer in a quiz, we’re working on a ‘hint’ feature to help pupils with those trickier questions.

When ready, this will be available for our new resources. To help recognise our new resources, look for the label 'New'.

Don’t forget to keep checking back here to see updates. We’d love for you to give your feedback on our improved area for pupils. Send any comments, thoughts or ideas for improvements to help@thenational.academy.
